Children

Our engaging children’s area features an interactive floor, Playstations and a collection of books available for lending. We have many great reads for children, from 'Board' books for babies to picture books, 'Beginner readers', 'Easy readers', 'First Chapter' books and beyond to independent reading. It’s not just fiction though; we have many non-fiction books such as dinosaurs, space, craft, environment, history and more.

We run regular programs for school aged children during term time such as LEGO Club, Tinker Team and Young Writers. Take a look through the event calendar for the current dates and times.

Every school holidays we also run special themed programs for children. These occupy children with new skills and could focus on technology, storytelling, gaming, craft or performance. Make sure you book in early as these programs fill quickly! Every summer we also run the Summer Reading Club where kids earn prizes for their reading.

Our weekly storytimes support the learning in the early years. Bring your child to the session of your choice to share stories and songs.

For information about our schools program please visit the education section of our website.

Storytime

On each week for:

  • Preschool: Mondays from 10am for three to five-year-olds
  • Toddler: Wednesdays from 10am for 18 months to three-year-olds
  • Cuddles: Fridays from 10am for newborns to 18 months

Please note: Storytime is not held during Victorian school holidays.

If your child missed Storytime, or would like to read their favourite book again, catch up on YouTube.

New readings are uploaded each month.

1000 Books Before School

Sharing stories with babies and young children helps develop literacy skills that will prepare them for reading at school.

The 1000 Books Before School program is a great way to track your child's reading progress as you work towards building these important skills.

  • Visit the Wodonga Library customer service desk to register and get your kit.
  • Colour or place a sticker on your Reading Record each time you read together with your child.
  • Each time you reach a milestone in your Reading Record, bring it in to the library for a special reward.
  • Every book that your child completes, or actively  listens to, counts – this includes stories read at Storytime sessions, daycare, playgroup, kindergarten, as well as the same book over and over again. You can read books from anywhere – not just library books.
  • The program finishes once your child reaches 1000 books, or starts school. Congratulations!
